Cooler weather Calls for Crafting
How quickly summer's halcyon days of beach holidays, suntans, sea swims, sand castles and ice creams have come to an end. As the sun fades on summer, the days slowly get longer and, before you know it, autumn has crept up on us.
The falling leaves in red and gold are a sight to behold but the arrival of this season also brings with it cooler weather.
What a perfect time to get cosy and crafting with two of our new kits!
Our latest kit, Claire, will indeed get your nimble fingers crafting as she loves all things vintage and her favourite pastime is dressing up!

Created from pale grey Steiff-Schulte rayon viscose, Claire has jointed arms, legs and head, You can enhance her vintage look by adding some subtle shading on the stitched seams, paws and footpads. Accentuate her eyes by placing a small amount of ultrasuede underneath the lower part of her eyes.
The floral bodice of her dress contrasts well with the velvet-type velour fabric skirt and she gladly shows off her tulle petticoat and matching neck ruffle, giving her an air of sophistication. Her matching velvet-velour headband is trimmed with a small ornate button, adding some panache to her overall appearance.
Included in her kit is the pattern, how-to instructions, a photograph of Claire, Steiff-Schulte rayon viscose, fabrics for her dress, petticoat, ruffle and headband, glass eyes, joint discs, hardware, embroidery thread and trim.

Bearmaking Tips for Beginners
Did you know?.......
A Fat Quarter metre
This refers to 1/4m of fabric, cut 50cm down the length, by 70cm across half the width of the fabric. The width of Steiff-Schulte mohair is 140cm. Fat quarters provide a longer length of fabric using larger pattern templates. This size will make a 40cm bear, depending on its design.
A Running Quarter meter
This refers to 1/4m of fabric, cut 25cm down the length, by 140cm across the full width of the fabric. In this case, the longest measurement of one of your pattern templates that could be accommodated, would be 25cm.
Both the above sizes refer to the pile direction of the mohair running parallel to the selvedge.
Till next time...
Happy bearmaking!
